I missed last weeks report in a tough loss to Newmachar but the boys made up for it today with a fantastic 3 points to take us level at the top with Hearties.

With only 11 boys available, Redha and Chidi from the 3s stepped up to help out.

We started into the wind with the intention of going into the break close and using the wind in our favour second half. Little did we know we would dominate the first 45.

We were almost 1 up after 15 but Hearties keeper, again, made a brilliant point blank save!

However we broke the deadlock soon after. Reynolds through ball was blocked buy fell to Lechner who neatly clipped a ball over to Lieder who turned into the box and was brought down! Penalty! Ogwuru stepped up, with the ball in a divot, and casually stroked it down the middle to gain the lead.

Mackenzie had a couple of routine saves from a couple of efforts before we made it 2. Ross Clark fired in a terrific corner which Lechner glanced on (with the aid of a defenders head) into the net!

Ogwuru then had a first time shot well saved and Patel was almost in but the ball just wouldnt land right fof him.

HT AU 2 – 0 BH

Lechner had the first chance when he cut through but his left foot effort blazed wide.

Hearties came out all guns blazing and 8 minutes into the second half they clawed a goal back. A direct free kick from 22yards was smashed through a gap in the wall and left Mackenzie helpless.

Unsworth and McLaren made two great last ditch tackles to theart the hosts who could smell blood.

However, Clark had different ideas. He ducked and weaved through 3 defenders but like Lechner, failed to finish.

Hearties headed over from 2 free kicks as they pressed for an equaliser but on the break Ogwuru beat his man and raced through on goal. Looking for his 40th goal this season he lifted his head to see the giant keeper in his way and unselfishly tee’d up Lieder to tap in close range.
