F - AU (1's) 2 - 6 Newmachar United Juniors FC

10 Oct 2020 by Daniel McKendrick

We were swiftly knocked off last weeks high with a heavy defeat to a sharp looking Newmachar side.

A high tempo match throughout but the main difference between the teams was the amount of time each team allowed the other when in possession. Newmachar didn’t give us a second whereas we offered them too much space and that proved fateful early on when a deep cross to the back post was met by the wide player, Forsyth, who made no mistake with a free header ten yards out.

Two minutes later it was 2-0. This time from the penalty spot after the same player cut across his man in the box and was felled. Forsyth brushed himself down and made no mistake from the spot.

We did bounce back immediately when a fine bit of play through the middle was finished by Chilaka who stroked home at the near post from 8 yards out.

Newmachar’s no.11 was then cruelly denied a first half hat trick when he found the net again but the ref adjudged him to be offside when in actual fact it looked like he had timed his run well again.

However they did find a 3rd goal before the interval when a corner was not defended well enough and the visiting striker slammed home the loose ball inside the box.

We did score goal of the game, in our biased view that Newmachar’s final goalscorer will dispute! Just before half time, Adrian Gassama cut in from the left and from fully 30 yards decided to let rip with a shot on goal which spectacularly dipped at the last moment, hit the underside of the bar, bounced over the line and up into the roof of the net.

HT: AU 2 – 3 NU

The second half Uni enjoyed much more of the ball but ultimately could ot really trouble their goalkeeper whereas at the other end a combination errors, clinical finishing and maybe a ‘slice’ of luck saw Newmachar romp home to what looked like a straightforward victory.

Their 4th goal was cooly slotted home by the striker after beating the offside trap and getting the break of the ball when trying to round Blackhouse.

Substitute Tough then converted the visitors 2nd penalty of the night when he was taken down when through on goal, despite Unsworths best claims that he’d won the ball.

The same scorer then lashed in what would maybe have been goal of the game…had he meant it! From the corner of the 18yard box, his cross/shot flew straight into the far top corner with our keeper absolutely no chance.

FT: AU 2 – 6 NU

Despite the scoreline, a good workout, more minutes in the players, a couple of goals & an eye opener to the new guys in the 1’s of the step up to Junior level as Newmachar were impressive in their work rate and press.

Thanks to Newmachar for the game and I can see them doing well in Division 2 when it returns.

Squad: Ian Blackhouse, Rio Nacef (Ewan Mcluckie), Charlie Unsworth, Rob Mallinder, Ross Clark, Adrian Gassama, Kurtis Turek (Glen McKay), Kieran Mooney (Brandon Donnelly), Christian Lechner, Nduoma Chilaka (Oscar Forbes), Owen McColgan (Adam Crawford)

AU Scorers: Chilaka, Gassama

AU MoM: Ross Clark – Showed exactly why he is captain. Mature, aggressive and the stand out on the park across both sides in my opinion.
